Oppo A5 2020 was announced in September 2019 and officially launched in October 2019. It appears in the crowded budget range to middy category that solemnly proves Oppo is trying to produce compelling devices in this market segment.

It is very similar to Oppo A9 2020. The main difference between the two is the camera setup. The A9 has a superior camera quality, and so justifies its cost. If you are looking for a similar array phone, you can go with an Oppo A5 2020. It is worth buying!

You can pick A5 around AUS $300 in Australia and 12,990 INR in India. These are the starting price of A5. It depends on the specifications and variants you ask for! The higher you go, the price will hike.

Of course, the market is highly competitive in this segment. Competitors like Motorola, Honor, Realme, and Redmi dwell in the same slab, but Oppo A5 2020 is worth consideration. Let us know how?

Design:

  • Palatial screen
  • Nicely designed
  • Not water resistant

By looking at Oppo A5, 2020, one can tell that it is not a premium phone. It feels the same when you pick it up. At the same time, it is right to say that this phone looks expensive than its price. Although it has a plastic back, the finishing of the phone is laudable.

You get two color choices- black and white wrapped in a plastic screen protector boxed with a silicone case. So, you don’t have to go and buy a screen protector from the outside store.

It has a 6.5-inch screen with 9.1mm thickness, this adds good grip, and you can access it easily in one hand. You will not be able to stuff it in a small pocket. It has a power button on the right and volume buttons on the left. Down is the 3.5mm standard headphone jack and a speaker grille. Oppo has got a USB-C data port that’s a good move as many budget phones are still resorts to microSD slots.

The finger scanner sits at the back. The phone is not water or dust resistant, well, we are not expecting much in this price. So, keep safe and refrain from taking your phone to the bathrooms.

Well, if we talk about the design of the phone, it is satisfactory. At least you won’t be embarrassed to take out for phone amongst family and friends.

Screen:

  • Low resolution
  • 6.5inch, 720*1600 pixels
  • Bright and vivid colors

The Oppo A5 2020 6.5inch LCD is equipped with 720*1600 pixels resolution that is relatively low. It lacks a super sharp HD display.

Well, you will be happy to know that it doesn’t matter much. Text and icons are sharp, videos are also good. These specs look bad on paper whereas the user won’t find much difference in screen quality.

Of course, Samsung AMOLED displays are noticeable but it entirely depends on the saying- what you pay, you get. You won’t be disappointed with the display.

The bezels are sharp and fine. Also, there is a teardrop at the top of the screen. The pop-ups are vibrant and bright while using. You can change temperatures- cool & warm with slider. Default color temperature also worked nicely while testing. It has an auto-brightness setting that works according to the surroundings.

Overall, we are not very impressed by the display. It is not disappointing either.

Camera:

  • Quad camera
  • Great daytime captures
  • User-friendly screen recognition

The Oppo A 5 2020 has a quad lens camera backside with depth sensors. It has a wide 12MP and ultra-wide 8MP sensors that capture seamless photos in the daytime.

You get good shots for your social media accounts. There is no telephone zoom but digital zoom covers the lag. It does not provide very sharp best photos but it is apt for casual pics. Once you zoom in it degrades the photo quality.

Dim light is a problem in budgeted phones. It is eradicated by photo editing apps on your phone or computer.

The ultrawide lens is fantastic. You can take landscape shots and family pics in one frame. Don’t expect wonders from A5 2020 camera, remember, what you are paying. However, we are pleased with the vibrancy of the shots.

The video quality tops out at 4k @30 fps. You need to drop down to 1080 p if you want to access built-in video stabilization mode. If the camera is your topmost priority, switch to Oppo A9 2020, it has a 48MP camera for better images.

Battery:

  • 5,000mAh battery
  • Two days staying power (without intensive tasks)
  • 10W limited charging

The battery life of the A5 stands out and lasts the whole day without charging. If you are not gaming or doing any intensive tasks on the phone, expect this battery to last more than a day. If you are going on a weekend trip, you don’t have to worry about charging your phone every night. So, a big thumbs up!

Software:

  • Eccentric Interface touches
  • Runs Android 9 plus ColorOS6
  • Some Bloatware

ColorOS is an adequate variant that you get amongst Oppo and Realme phones. It is not the worst and not the best, somewhere in between. The design looks a bit apprentice, and you get some apps that you might not use.

The A5 has a Smart Assistant Screen that provides quick access to contacts, steps counter, and notifications.

Performance:

  • 3 GB RAM
  • Snapdragon 665 Chipset
  • Okay performance

The Oppo A5 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset which is standard in budget phones. A 3GB RAM is the minimum you can get in today’s phones. Finally, you get storage of 64GB expandable slot. There are other variants of 4GB RAM and 128GB storage available.

Verdict:

If you want an affordable smartphone, Oppo A5 2020 does the job. It has an exceptional battery staying power, which lasts two days long. It has an ample processor for games and tasks.

The screen resolution could have been better and smeared proof but we are happy with the camera captures.

If we compare it with Motorola G8 Plus we would have picked A5 instead. Oppo A5 2020 isn’t pricey. So, that’s a plus!
