Jaimie Alexander says Sif’s MCU return goes beyond Thor: Love and Thunder
According to Sif actor Jaimie Alexander, her character is here to stay as a part of the MCU. Alexander said as much via social media shortly after her fan-favorite character made an appearance on Marvel’s Loki. In addition to her hard-hitting cameo on the show, Sif is also set to return for Taika Waititi’s THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER. While this last bit comes as no surprise, Alexander appears to be teasing a much longer stay for the character as Marvel’s Phase Four plans continue.
“The lady has returned… and she is here to stay,” Alexander wrote on an Instagram story.
Alexander first picked up Sif’s sword and shield for Marvel’s Thor. After that, she reprised the role in Thor: The Dark World and two episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts kept her from participating in Thor: Ragnarok, though considering what became of the Warriors Three in that movie, perhaps her absence was for the best?
How Sif will make her return in Thor: Love and Thunder is anyone’s guess. Plot details for the sequel are being kept tightly under wraps at this time. In fact, all we truly know at this point is that aspects of the story will be based on Marvel’s The Mighty Thor comic book saga. In the epic story, Jane Foster becomes the newest hero to wield the hammer Mjolnir, after Thor becomes unworthy of its power. When Jane picks up the hammer, she is transformed into the Mighty Thor. There’s a catch, though. Jane is dying of cancer, and every time she calls upon the hammer, her condition worsens a great deal. At some point, she’ll have to choose between being the hero Midgar needs or risk losing her own life in the process.

Joining Alexander for Thor: Love and Thunder are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Russell Crowe as Zeus, in addition to others. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on May 6, 2022.
What Marvel has planned for Sif beyond the events of Thor: Love and Thunder is anyone’s guess, though I wouldn’t complain about her starring in a Journey Into Mystery series on Disney+.
