Trailer Watch: Zoe Lister-Jones Faces Her Fears In Apocalyptic Comedy “How It Ends”

Zoe Lister-Jones embarks on an existential scavenger hunt for her soul in “How It Ends.” A trailer for the apocalyptic Sundance comedy sees the “Life in Pieces” alumna receiving an invite to one last party before the world ends. Though she’s determined to “go out with a bang,” Liza (Lister-Jones) vows to right past wrongs before partying her way towards oblivion.

“My whole life has just been a series of regret after regret after regret,” Liza admits. With the help of her younger self (Cailee Spaeny), Liza attempts to make amends with her father (Bradley Whitford), best friend (Olivia Wilde), and ex (Lamorne Morris).

In addition to starring in “How It Ends,” Lister-Jones wrote, directed, and produced the pic alongside Daryl Wein.

“[Daryl] and I started conceiving of this story pretty early on in quarantine. We were facing so many unprecedented fears, and living in this apocalyptic landscape,” Lister-Jones told us. “We were both doing a lot of inner child work in therapy, and this film served as a way for us to process a lot of what we were feeling, while also serving as a time capsule of this singular moment in history.”

Lister-Jones’ other writing and directing credits include 2020’s “The Craft: Legacy” and 2017’s “Band Aid.” She also acted in the latter.

“How It Ends” premieres on digital and in select theaters July 20.
