While chatting with People, she told the news outlet: ‘That time of my life was really dark and so heavy. I did not see how I was going to come out on the other side. I did not even know there was another side. I chose to change my life. Most people think, ‘She went to a hotel, took a bunch of drugs probably, was on a binge.’ It did not happen like that. It was everyday life, just trying to figure how to get through the day and then…’
The former reality TV star also explained that this happened while she was shooting her WE tv docuseries Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life! and that was no coincidence.
According to her, being in front of the cameras constantly, really took a massive toll on her mental health.

Tamar always seems to be so confident and strong on-screen but the reality is much different.
The celeb mentioned that she’d never really dealt with being molested multiple times as a child and when this information was brought up during a taping back in 2018, without her consent, it really affected her.
‘How it came out was really traumatic for me. I thought that I had successfully buried that part of me, but it was actually manifesting in many different ways. It was coming out in how I dealt emotionally with things, how I looked at situations and how I conducted myself.’
As time went by, she started to feel more and more ‘boxed in’ when it came to her onscreen persona and her mental health further deteriorated, leading to her suicide attempt.
But now, she truly understands that ‘I have a responsibility. I chose to live my life out loud; I have to do the work because people are watching me.’
