Zoë Kravitz Will Make Directorial Debut with “Pussy Island”

With her buzziest on-screen role on the way, Zoë Kravitz is stepping behind the camera. The “Big Little Lies” star, who wrapped filming on highly anticipated DC title “The Batman” earlier this year, is set to make her directorial debut with “Pussy Island.” Variety reports that she’s also producing the pic.

Written by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum, the thriller follows “a young Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Frida, who has her sights set on tech mogul Slater King, played by [Channing] Tatum. Frida makes her way into King’s inner circle and attends an intimate gathering on his private island, where she will have the journey of a lifetime. Despite the beautiful location and wealthy people, Frida uncovers that there’s more to the island than meets the eye — something terrifying.” No word on who will portray Frida.

Kravitz will play Catwoman in “The Batman,” which is slated to bow in early 2022. Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, and Michelle Pfeiffer are among those who have previously portrayed the iconic character.

“The Batman” doesn’t mark Kravitz’s first foray into the world of comic adaptations. She played Angel Salvadore in “X-Men: First Class.” Her other film credits include “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Max Max: Fury Road.” She led Hulu’s series adaptation of “High Fidelity,” a comedy about a record store owner.

Back in 2015 Kravitz hinted that she planned to get involved behind the scenes. “It’s a great time [to be a young woman in Hollywood] because people are finally talking about our opportunities and roles. This is an industry that has been run by men for so long and we can’t expect them to speak for us, because they really don’t know. It’s time for women to start writing our own shit, directing our own shit, producing our own shit. We have to start doing it,” she told Elle.
