Lil Nas X Responds To Criticism Of His Same-Sex Kiss During The BET Awards—“People Are Still Acting Surprised That I’m Being Gay & Sexual”
Roommates, the 2021 BET Awards were filled with memorable performances and viral moments—and Lil Nas X managed to have both at the same time. During his performance of his song “Call Me By Your Name,” Lil Nas X shocked viewers when he ended his performance by deeply French kissing one of his male dancers…and now he has responded to the criticism.
In a matter of minutes, Lil Nas X became one of the top trending topics of the night after he literally made jaws drop when he kissed his male backup dancer. The kiss ended his performance, which was inspired by Michael Jackson’s iconic “Remember The Time” video.
In response to the intense backlash he received from those who felt that the kiss was inappropriate for younger audiences who were watching the show, Lil Nas X posted the following message to his Twitter account.
“We are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that I am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual s**t,” he tweeted.
As we previously reported, the most viral moment of the BET Awards easily belonged to Lil Nas X, but if his critics were expecting him to apologize for offending anyone, they were definitely mistaken, as he not only doubled down on his performance, but also promised more to come.
