Cursed cancelled by Netflix after one season

Cursed, Netflix, cancelled

If you’ve been looking forward to the continuing adventures of Nimue on Netflix’s Cursed, well, I’ve got some bad news for you. Deadline has reported that Netflix has cancelled Cursed after one season and the cast have been released from their contracts.

The series was a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend adapted from the illustrated novel by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. Katherine Langford (Knives Out) starred as Nimue, “a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.” Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler executive produced the series, with Wheeler also serving as showrunner. In addition to Langford, Cursed also starred Daniel Sharman as Weeping Monk, Sebastian Armesto as King Uther Pendragon, Matt Stokoe as Gawain, Lily Newmark as Pym, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Igraine, Emily Coates as Sister Iris, Billy Jenkins as Squirrel, Bella Dayne as Red Spear, and Peter Mullan as Father Carden.

Our own Alex Maidy reviewed Cursed upon its release last year, and although he enjoyed it overall, his biggest qualm was that the series did occasionally feel like a teen-centric show trapped in a mature package. You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here. What about you? Are you sad to see Cursed get the axe or was the writing on the wall from the beginning?
