Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent lands 2022 release

One of my most anticipated projects is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, an action comedy which stars Nicolas Cage as…Nicolas Cage. That’s pretty much all you need to know, but Lionsgate have announced that the film will be released on April 22, 2022, which I’m sure many of us are marking in our calendars right now.

Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal),” reads the official description. “Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nicolas Cage.” I am beyond sold. In addition to Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, and Tiffany Haddish, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent also stars Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Previous reports have also stated that every so often, Nicolas Cage also speaks with an egotistical 1990s version of himself who is on his case for making too many bad movies and not being a major star anymore. The actor has previously said that the ’90s version of the character will be channeling the energy of a very specific Nicolas Cage, namely the one who made an extremely memorable appearance on Terry Wogan’s chat show. “Remember that talk show I went on, Wogan, when I was promoting Wild At Heart?” Cage said. “Young Nic Cage [in the film] will be that guy. But this is a very stylized version of me. It’s definitely just me ‘taking the piss’, as they say, out of myself.” Cage also teased that the film may just contain a few re-enactments of some of his past work. “I’m probably going to have to look at a couple of the movies from the past again, because I think we’re gonna have to reenact some of those sequences. It’s like walking through a Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari version of Con Air and Face/Off,” Cage said.

Nicolas Cage will next be seen in Pig, which will be released on July 16, 2021.
