‘Loki’ Actress Sophia Di Martino Talks LGBTQ+ Reveal

Sylvie herself discusses the pivotal scene.

Loki actress Sophia Di Martino discussed the series’ LGBTQ+ revelation.

The newest episode of Loki was Marvel Studios’ latest step in LGBTQ+ representation. The episode, titled “Lamentis,” revealed during a conversation between Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) that the titular God of Mischief was bisexual. This makes Loki the first canonically bisexual lead character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sophia Di Martino reflected on filming the scene in question when speaking to Deadline:

“When we were filming it, we were aware how important it was. [Director] Kate [Herron] was really keen on getting that into the show. People have been waiting for it for a long time, and it was in the comics for a long time. It was really important to us, to her and a lot of people.”

The actress compared the scene to the diner scene in Heat with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro:

“It’s two acquaintances having a chat on the train. I didn’t realize it would be such a massive thing, and I’m so pleased it is. The engagement with it, and the reaction to it are incredible. I’m glad I didn’t over-play it.”
