It has been announced that Breaking Bads Mark Johnson will oversee development of the Anne Rice TV franchise for the cable network, with Rolin Jones attached as showrunner on the first show. AMC and its streamer, AMC+, will launch Interview With the Vampire in 2022. At this time casting for the eight-episode first season has yet to take place. Mark Johnson, who has his own overall pact with AMC Studios, will be charged with overseeing the Vampire franchise as AMC plans to build a multiple-show universe as part of the big Anne Rice deal.

AMC landed rights to Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches series as part of the deal with the author and her writer son, Christopher Rice, last year. Combined, the two franchises have sold more than 150 million books worldwide. Anne and Christopher Rice have retained rights to executive produce all series stemming from the deal.
