Thanos Creator Thought ‘Avengers 3’ Would Be Like ‘Justice League’
Thanos creator Jim Starlin admitted that at one point he thought Avengers: Infinity War would turn out like Joss Whedon’s Justice League.
It’s safe to say both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame stuck the landing after many positive reviews and becoming the biggest movies of all time. However, given Infinity War‘s massive scale, some fans feared the film might not work ahead of its release. As it turns out, Thanos creator Jim Starlin was one of them, but for different reasons.
Jim Starlin looked back on the production of Avengers: Infinity War with ComicBook.com and recalled thinking that the film might turn out to be bad like the theatrical version of Justice Leauge after he learned that Thanos’ backstory was being cut from the film:
“I did have a few bad moments just before the Infinity War [release]. I had been down to the set for the cameo shoot, and had sat and talked with the two screenwriters, Markus and McFeely and quite a bit with Joe Russo. In Infinity War, they had had a half hour that they had to cut which was going to be Thanos’s back story. There was going to be a half hour without the Avengers, apparently. So, I thought, ‘That’s pretty cool.’ Then I was on a plane and I watched the Justice League movie, and they just sort of threw Steppenwolf in there at the end, and he does his thing. All in all, it was kind of a bad movie. So about a month or so before the Infinity War came out Russo said… Let me know that they had to cut the half hour of Thanos. All I could think of was, ‘Oh my god, that’s going to make it into the Justice League movie.’”
