Samuel L. Jackson has been in a plethora of films and is probably one of the biggest box office stars out there if you tally up his time with Marvel and the Star Wars franchises. As it turns out, Samuel L. Jackson likes to watch Samuel L. Jackson movies too and he even has a list of favorites. While some actors may not like to watch themselves on screen, Samuel L. Jackson reveals the five films of his that he usually stops and watches if he catches them on television, and his top choice was actually revealed during our recent interview with the film’s director.
Jackson was on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and the host was convinced that most actors just can’t stand to watch their own movies. Jackson first shared a much different theory with the host:
“Some actors lie to you about that. They watch their movies. It’s a watch-me business, that’s why we’re here. If I’m channel surfing and I haven’t found anything I want to watch, or not specifically looking for something, and I pass something I’m in, I stop and watch it.”
Once Colbert established that Jackson does indeed watch his own films, the host took things one step further and asked the actor to name his top five Samuel L. Jackson movies. Let’s see if Jackson’s top five surprises you as he picked Renny Harlin’s THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, Joel Schumacher’s A Time to Kill, Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, Francois Girard’s The Red Violin, and Kevin Reynolds’ One Eight Seven.
While some might say, “where is Pulp Fiction?”, it should be noted that all of these films were released between 1996 and 1998, which may have just been a memorable time in the actor’s career. It’s not like it’s a bad list either. Only One Eight Seven is rotten on Rotten Tomatoes and, personally, A Time to Kill is one of my favorite movies while unpopular opinion ranks Jackie Brown as one of Quentin Tarantino’s best films on my end. I also have friends that LOVE The Long Kiss Goodnight and think it’s an underrated action masterpiece. In fact, our very own Chris Bumbray just recently interviewed Renny Harlin and the director even mentioned how much Jackson loved the film and that they really want to make a sequel.
