Stephen Lang is back as the “Blind Man” in the first trailer for Don’t Breathe 2 and, having survived the events of the 2016 film, it appears that a different group of people has come around to disrupt his quiet existence only to find that they have no clue what they’re in for.

In the film, the “Blind Man” has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the “Blind Man” to leave his safe haven to save her. The sequel also stars Bobby Schofield, Rocci Williams, Stephanie Arcila, Adam Young, Diaana Babnicova, and Christian Zagia.

The first Don’t Breathe followed a trio of young thieves who were hoping to walk away with a massive fortune after breaking into the house of a blind man. The problem is, the blind man isn’t as helpless as he seems and soon they become the prey of someone who is more deprived than they realized. Don’t Breathe proved to be a sleeper bit back in 2016, grossing $89.2 million at the domestic box office and $157.8 million worldwide. Also, unlike a lot of horror films, Don’t Breathe was also a hit with critics, scoring an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, and Daniel Zovatto.

Taking over directing duties on the sequel from Fede Alvarez is Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote the Evil Dead remake and the first Don’t Breathe. Alvarez is back on board as a producer along with Sam Raimi, and Robert Tapert. It will be interesting to see if the sequel can live up to the tension and suspense generated by its predecessor because Don’t Breathe is one of the better horror films to come out in a while. It’s not a film that screamed that it needed a sequel but I’m willing to give this a shot.

Did YOU like the trailer? Don’t Breathe 2 hits screens on August 13, 2021.
