Scarlett Johansson Is Saying Goodbye To Black Widow After Solo Film

Longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Scarlett Johansson recently talked about saying goodbye to her Black Widow character, Natasha Romanoff.

First appearing in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow became one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most reoccurring characters. Over the course of eleven years, the actress has appeared in nine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films with the upcoming Black Widow movie becoming her tenth. The character eventually died in Avengers: Endgame so Hawkeye could get the Soul Stone and undo the damage caused by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Since the character debuted back in 2010, many have wondered why the actress hadn’t been allowed to star in her own film. This eventually turned out to be due to behind-the-scenes drama but after years in development and a year-long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film will finally be hitting theaters next month. While speaking to Comicbook.com, Scarlett Johansson talked about saying goodbye to the character after such a long tenure:

“Honestly, I feel like it’s always, it feels great to leave a party when it’s still raging and I think that this film [Black Widow] feels very much like it’s alive and fresh and powerful and I feel really pleased with it. I feel really happy with the work that we’ve done for this decade of time and, you know, it’s bitter sweet to say, ‘Goodbye,’ but if you love something, you need to set it free!”

Are you sad to see Scarlett Johannson leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Are you surprised it took the studio so long to give Black Widow her own film? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
