Padalecki & Ackles mend fences after prequel misunderstanding
It was reported yesterday that Jensen Ackles is developing a Supernatural prequel series that will center on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents, John and Mary. Sounds good, but it seems that no one saw fit to inform Ackles’ Supernatural brother about the series. When asked about the project on Twitter, Jared Padalecki said that he “gutted” that he had to find out about it on Twitter along with everyone else. Thankfully, it seems that the momentary public dispute between the on-screen bros has been put to rest.
@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good.
The show is early in the process with miles to go.
We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps.
Bumps don’t stop us.
Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily— Jared Padalecki (@jarpad) June 25, 2021

The Winchesters will be told from the perspective of Dean Winchester — with Jensen Ackles serving as narrator — and will tell the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” As Padalecki mentioned, the project is still in the early stages, so there may be room for Sam Winchester’s involvement when all is said and done. As for Ackles, he quickly responded to Padalecki’s tweet.
Love you @jarpad …
Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you’re busy…as am I, but you’re still my brother. I miss you, pal. https://t.co/KtRKYkvc2K— Jensen Ackles (@JensenAckles) June 25, 2021

The Winchesters has a script commitment from The CW and will be written and executive produced by Robbie Thompson, a former Supernatural writer and co-executive producer. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke isn’t involved in the new series, but it does have his support. “When @JensenAckles first told me this story, I loved it,” Kripke tweeted. “He & @DanneelHarris & @rthompson1138 are the perfect people to make it. (The other perfect person is too busy Texas Rangering.) Thanks for carrying the torch, guys, go kick it in the ass. Proud of you.“
