Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch & Benjamin Flores

Many genre fans didn’t jump straight into movies like Friday the 13th, HellraiserSaw, or even Halloween. No, they started with the name R.L. Stine. From Goosebumps to Fear Street, the author captured the hearts of young readers everywhere looking for a good and fun fright or two. Well, many of his fans have grown up, and now we all have something that will please slasher lovers in addition to those who love the old scary stories. Fear Street 1994 – the first in a series of three films that continues with Fear Street 1978 and Fear Street 1666 – is one of the best straight-up slice-n-dice horror flicks I’ve seen in years. It’s a movie that wears its R-rating proudly with gore, violence, nudity, and tons of F-Bombs. The cast, including Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, and Benjamin Flores Jr., is perfect, and the scares and frightful fun are non-stop. This ridiculously entertaining film was brought to life by director Leigh Janiak, and frankly, I can’t wait for the story to continue in the following weeks.

Recently, we sat down with Kiana, Olivia, and Benjamin to talk about this crazy enjoyable flick. The three actors were an absolute joy to speak with. I’d spoken with Olivia before about her series Panic on Amazon Prime, and she was fantastic here as well – she still plans to watch my recommendation of The Boogens. The three opened up about their history with R.L. Stine, working with Janiak, and finding their personalities in the roles they took on. One of the most well-done aspects of the new film is just how they handled the romantic relationship between both Kiana and Olvia, and both of these talented actors discussed how they approached that part of the story. And they are fantastic together.

I highly recommend Fear Street 1994. If you love slasher flicks like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer or even the golden age of slasher in the ’70s and ’80s, you’re going to absolutely love every moment of this. Check Fear Street 1994 TODAY on Netflix! And keep your eyes open to JoBlo.com as we present interviews with other members of the Fear Street gang each week before each 1978 and 1666 are officially available. Bring on the Fear!
