Vin Diesel Addresses The ‘Fast And Furious’ Feud With Dwayne Johnson
Vin Diesel has finally addressed his feud with his Fast and Furious co-star Dwayne Johnson that came to light during the production of Fate of the Furious.
Dwayne Johnson made his first appearance in the Fast and Furious franchise in the 2011 film, Fast Five as Lucas Hobbs. Originally an antagonist, Dwayne Johnson’s character would eventually ally himself with Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto to take down various terrorists. The two would work together in four of the franchise’s films but behind the scenes, things did not run smoothly.
In a social media post, Dwayne Johnson didn’t call anyone specifically out but noted that many of his male co-stars acted in a manner he considered unprofessional. Vin Diesel was apparently one of these people, which caused Dwayne Johnson to leave the main franchise and do his own spinoff film with Jason Statham that was eventually titled Hobbs & Shaw. But Vin Diesel is reassuring everyone that this feud is in the past.
While speaking to Men’s Health the Fast and Furious star talked about his relationship with Dwayne Johnson and provides a few hints as to where the feud between the two may have originated. Based on what Vin Diesel says, it might have been because he pushed The Rock a bit too hard:
“As a producer, to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know’ — Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks.
That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”
What do you all make of Vin Diesel’s words? Do you think he may have pushed Dwayne Johnson too hard on the Fast and Furious films? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Here is the official synopsis for Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious 9.
Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, this year’s The Suicide Squad).
F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
Directed Justin Lin from a script written by Daniel Casey, Fast and Furious 9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Cardi B and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
Fast and Furious 9 will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Fast and Furious franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
